Embedding benefits management in leading UK university

The challenge

With increasing requirement to demonstrate return on investment in research and research Technology, the University of Manchester Research and Technology leadership needed to be able to better identify, track and measure benefits (and disbenefits) of their Technology investments.

The solution

Working closely with key stakeholders and University of Manchester program leads, we facilitated a workshop lead approach to benefit management that improved benefit management across the program whilst equipping UoM with methods and tools for benefits management optimisation.

The result

Over three months we implemented effective benefit measurement and management across 3 programs and 21 projects. This identified over £11m+ in unplanned benefits, alongside £4m in disbenefits. Resulting in a re-prioritisation of projects and resources to maximise ROI.
